About Our Course
When Rees Jones makes his mark on the landscape, whether it’s oceanfront, the desert or more traditional topography, accolades always follow. And not just for the beauty and challenge of the course itself. But also for his philosophy that’s evidenced by the preservation of the contour of the land, its natural elements and the views afforded from multiple, likely striking spots.
Echelon: A Rees Jones Classic
Echelon embodies this philosophy with 18 holes of classic Rees Jones design, including an unmatched 32-acre practice and training facility.
The course blends in perfectly over more than 600 acres of rolling hills in Alpharetta, Georgia, known more for its tranquil horse farms and lush polo fields than the striping of Tifsport tees and fairways and Bentgrass greens.
Says Jones, “Georgia has such a wonderful history in golf, and I’m glad to be able to contribute to another feather in its cap. The site of Echelon is especially appealing. The golf course that will challenge every level of player.”
With striking elevation changes and playing 7,558 yards from the back tees, the challenge is evident. But by offering five sets of tees on each hole, so is Echelon’s ability to level the playing field and keep the game fun and forgiving.
The Course Designer
Known in golfing circles as “The Open Doctor” for his celebrated work remodeling several U.S. Open course, Rees Jones has become one of the most renowned golf course architects in the world.
His design philosophy is best described by Jones himself, “The style of a course is dictated by the contours of the land. The importance of the visual impact of a golf hole from the tee should never be underestimated. Natural elements are embellished and created elements are made to look natural. Every design is customized to enhance what nature offers, always with a sensitivity to environmental issues.”
Echelon is testament to this philosophy and joins a distinguished list of original Rees Jones course designs in Georgia including: Atlanta Athletic Club, Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee and Ocean Forest Golf Club on Sea Island.
